Auto locksmiths are the cheaper and more reliable alternative for many people in situations involving car keys. When you accidentally lock your keys in the car, snap your key when in the ignition, or even have a worn out key, getting a reliable auto locksmith to fix the problem may be cheaper than having the auto dealership replace your keys. Some auto locksmiths are also accessible twenty-four hours a day and come directly to you. Auto locksmiths carry diagnostic tools and a set of original or after-market keys with them for such jobs. After-market keys can be cut and programmed to function just as well as original keys. Beyond the above-stated key problems, there are several other ignition problems that auto locksmiths are capable of handling and fixing right on the spot.

Key won't turn in ignition

This is a problem often associated with worn out keys. The pits in the key become shallow and can no longer turn the pins in the ignition cylinder. Worn out keys can be replaced immediately by a reliable auto locksmith. In modern cars, there is an electronic chip in keys responsible for further sending an electrical code to the car from the key for recognition. This anti-theft feature can also be the reason for your key not turning. Sometimes the key transponder may be damaged or sends the wrong signal. Other times, the signal may be blocked, or interference from signals in the surrounding environment may hamper this signal. In all these scenarios, the key won't turn or start the car. Auto locksmiths are also capable of dealing with this. A newly-cut key can be fit with your old transponder to relay the same signal. The locksmith can also crack the vehicle electronic component and reprogram it to respond to a new signal that corresponds to your new set of keys.

This could be as a result of several issues. However, if the anti-theft signal on your dashboard flashes, the problem is ignition and key related. The problem here is that the computer within your car does not recognize the signal from your key transponder or key fob, even though the cylinder is being turned correctly by the key. The cause of this miscommunication may be a bad receiver in the ignition switch, a damaged key fob, or a fault in the wiring between the ignition switch and the computer. An experienced auto locksmith can carry out a proper diagnostic in this situation and determine the exact location of the problem. Depending on the location of the problem, your vehicle will then either be fixed on the spot or towed to a site where it can be reprogrammed.
